This workshop will discuss several models that explain what dissociation is, how it effects our work, and why it is essential to the success of our clients to be able to assess for dissociation in our clients and in ourselves. We will look at theory and research as well as case studies and anecdotal experience to begin to identify dissociation in our clients and ourselves and to learn when and how to use strategies and interventions to mitigate it.

    Participants will be able to:
*Explain dissociation, why it occurs, and learn about several models to explain dissociation
*Describe how dissociation can effect work across social work practice and have an impact on our lives as practitioners
*Assess when the clients or the practitioner is dissociating
*Identify and demonstrate strategies to mitigate dissociation and interface effectively with people living with dissociative disorders
