IDD and Mental Health Co-morbidity: Assessment, Diagnosis, and How to Avoid Common Errors- Presented by the North Carolina Chapter
This presentation builds upon the Overview of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities presentation. It aims to provide social workers and other mental health practitioners with information and tools for improving their skills in assessment and diagnosis of mental health conditions in individuals with IDD utilizing the DSM 5 and the DM-ID 2. Participants will be able to demonstrate improved understanding of comorbidity, how symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and psychotic disorders present in individuals with ID, and empty better diagnostic practices.
Priscila Norris, MS, MSW, LCSW is a clinical social worker specializing in clinical and systemic treatment approaches to supporting individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Co-morbid Mental Health diagnosis. She takes a special interest in trauma and trauma treatment through mindfulness and wellness approaches. She is a member of the NASW NC Board of Directors and works and lives in Eastern NC.
