Children and Computer Gaming Addictions- Presented by the North Carolina Chapter
Children can play over 20 hrs. of video games per week and 10% can say they feel ‘addicted.’ This level of video game and other electronic device use can interfere with sleep, cause a reduction in grades, affect mood, contribute to family conflicts, can be the instigator of behavioral escalations, and interfere with social interactions. This presentation will review how video games are purposely designed to be ‘compelling’ (addictive). It will also review childhood risk factors for defaulting to video game abuse and addiction. Interventions for children and parents will be reviewed.
