Come explore the power of civility in the social service workplace. As human service professionals, we are required to ensure the well-being and care of others. Often to the detriment of our well-being. Workplace incivility is a phenomenon that is often discussed but generally unaddressed. A proactive overview, followed by a discussion to encourage open dialogue between the witnesses and targets of incivility in the workplace. The workshop will delve into the resilience theory factor and how to identify strategies to combat toxic work environments that human service professionals face despite caring for others professionally and personally. In this workshop, we will discuss and learn about incivility's impact on human service professionals, performance, and the overall functionality of organizations. Most importantly, we will look at what the research and other professionals say about how to address and protect themselves in the workplace.

    Learning Objectives:
    • Participants will be introduced to the trends and defining behaviors of civility.
    • Participants will learn and engage in discussions about experiences as a target or witness of workplace incivility.
    • Participants will learn resilience factors and coping strategies to address toxic work environments.
    • Participants will leave with resources and tools on how to prevent incivility in the workplace.
