From Awareness to Action: Weathering, Structural Competency, and Black Women's Health Justice 1 CEU - Clinical, Cultural Responsiveness, or Ethics Presenter: Dr Monique Bostic, DSW, LCSW
This presentation will explore the critical role of structural competency in providing effective mental health care to Black women. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the distinction between cultural competency and structural competency, recognizing the importance of addressing systemic factors that contribute to mental health disparities.
Learning Objectives 1. Participants will explore the tenants of the weathering framework. 2. Participants will be able to compare and contrast cultural competency and structural competency. 3. Participants will increase their knowledge of culturally responsive interventions.
About the Presenter:
Dr. Monique Bostic is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) committed to advancing social justice and addressing mental health disparities. With a master’s degree in social work from Kean University and a doctorate from Simmons University, she brings extensive experience to her practice. As a scholar-practitioner, Dr. Bostic integrates academic knowledge with her real-world experience to deliver culturally responsive mental health services to individuals through her virtual private practice, as a clinical supervisor and in the classroom at Syracuse University, as an adjunct professor. Dr. Bostic is a mother of two adult sons and currently living with her husband in Georgia.
