MD20260413 - LIVE/VIRTUAL – From Abstraction to Direction: Strategies for Building Your Voice and Presence as a Social Work SupervisorDate: Monday, April 13, 2026 – 5:00 pm – 8:15 pm
Presenter: Lee Westgate, MBA, MSW, LCSW-C, (he/him/his)
ConsultantSynopsis: Social Work is a decidedly complex field that is all at once populated by mission-driven professionalswho derive insurmountable energy and passion from frontline work. Moreover, the path to a social work leadership role is hardly a direct line. Clinical talent and skill sets do not always transfer to one’s leadership role. Thus, emerging and even tenured social work supervisors and leaders must build new muscles to lead teams and promote high-quality care. This training is designed to teach social work supervisors and leaders impactful content, strategic frameworks, and leadership skills that stay true to social work leadership's core values.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the context of social work leadership coupled with the complexities of today's work.
2. Review the essential tasks of social work supervisors.
3. Conceptualize and effectively respond to the common pitfalls and crucible moments of emerging leaders.
4. Build supervisory and leadership skills to remain grounded in practice, to nurture teams, and to prioritize the care of those who depend on us.
