Project 2025 Update: 18 Months In
Date: Friday, June 12, 2026; 9:00 am-12:15 pm
Presenter: Suzanne Cox, MSW, MS, MBA, LCSW-C, CCTP, C-DBT
Synopsis: The operationalization of Project 2025, including the overt dismissal of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, the ceasing of collection of data that captured both population-specific needs and disparities, targeted ICE actions, and other acts, disproportionally impacts already struggling groups and communities. Social safety nets, including access to health care, food, and educational resources, are either already cut or being threatened with cuts. The increases in policing, targeted police actions, and incarcerations are reminiscent of actions taken at other critical points in our National and world history. These actions are taking place rapidly and proceeding with seemingly minimal effective checks or balances, and some cracks may be emerging. This workshop will update the impact of Project 2025’s implementation, focusing on marginalized individuals and communities, actions taken to counter specific measures, and the risks and benefits of taking personal action.
Learning Objectives: at the end of this workshop, attendees will:
1. Gain knowledge of recent specific federal-level actions that both overtly and covertly impact marginalized individuals and communities unfairly, impacting how social workers can effectively support them.
2. Identify actions that can be taken to support and build resilience in the communities we serve.
3. Discuss the risks and benefits of making the decision to take or not to act, focusing on inherent risks, what seems to be working, and what else might be done.
4. Examine the emergence of Project 2028 and what this may mean if implemented in response to what has happened and what will likely occur in the near future.
