This presentation will introduce participants to the process of deconstructing CBT as a culturally responsive treatment for racial injury. CBT assumptions will be examined and reframed from a social justice perspective. Participants will apply their learning to vignettes and practice examples to enhance their confidence in assisting with culturally responsive healing. This may prompt participants to deconstruct other evidence-based therapies.
Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will identify steps to deconstruct CBT 2. Participants will explain and challenge CBT assumptions 3. Participants will apply learning to a case example
About the Presenter:
Constance Perkins is a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience in school, hospital, and private practice settings, with the recent addition of university teaching. Connie received her BA in Psychology from Michigan State University, her MSW from Temple University, and her DSW from Simmons University. Connie has provided clinical supervision to students and social workers pursuing licensure. Her approach to teaching and learning is to offer meaningful experiences that bring the content to life. Connie has created professional development presentations on issues related to social justice in clinical practice and the deconstruction of evidence-based practices.
